Medication Reviews

Patients on regular medication may occasionally be asked to see a GP or practice nurse so their treatment can be reviewed.

Please Note: You may not be given a prescription at every appointment, as not all conditions require medication.

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

48_hours

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Prescriptions Charges & Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

Reducing Printed Prescriptions at Our Surgery

As part of our commitment to improving efficiency and reducing waste, we are aiming to limit the number of printed prescriptions, including those sent electronically through the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).

Electronic prescriptions are securely sent straight to your nominated pharmacy, meaning there’s no need for a printed version in most cases. This helps us save time, reduce paper use, improve safetyimprove traceability and support a more environmentally friendly NHS.

If you haven’t yet nominated a pharmacy or need help with EPS, our team will be happy to assist you.
