Who can register

Anyone in England can register with a GP free of charge. We welcome new patients from Walthamstow and the surrounding area, including people who do not yet have an NHS number, proof of address or photo ID.

If you live outside our immediate practice area we can still usually register you, but we may not be able to offer home visits. Temporary residents staying locally can also register for up to three months.

Anyone in England can register with a GP free of charge. We welcome registrations from patients living outside our immediate area, though home visits may not be possible if you live a long way from the surgery.

You do not need:

  • proof of address
  • photographic identification
  • an NHS number
  • proof of immigration status

Registering with us: your questions

Can I register if I live outside the area?
Yes. We accept registrations from patients living outside our immediate practice area. If you live further away, we may not be able to provide home visits, so we will consider whether registration is appropriate for your circumstances.
How long does registration take?
The online form takes about five minutes. Our registration team then reviews your application and contacts you if anything further is needed.
Do I need ID, proof of address or an NHS number?
No. You do not need photo ID, proof of address, an NHS number or proof of immigration status to register with us. Everyone in England can register with a GP free of charge.
Can I register my children or the rest of my family?
Yes. You can register babies, children and other family members. Complete a separate registration for each person.
I do not have a fixed address. Can I register?
Yes. You do not need a permanent address. You can use a temporary address or, if necessary, the practice address.
I am only staying locally temporarily. Can I register?
If you are staying in the area temporarily and are registered with another GP, you may be able to register as a temporary patient for up to three months.
What happens to my medical records?
Once your registration is complete, your records are transferred from your previous GP practice electronically. You do not need to arrange this yourself.
