ADHD shared care
Higham Hill Medical Centre participates in the North East London adult ADHD ongoing-care pathway.
We can provide ongoing prescribing and monitoring for suitable adults with an established ADHD diagnosis whose medication has already been initiated, titrated and stabilised by an appropriate specialist service.
Who can we accept?
We can usually consider shared care where:
- you are aged 18 or over
- you are registered with Higham Hill Medical Centre
- you have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis
- your ADHD medication has already been initiated and titrated by an appropriate specialist service
- your dose is stable and no immediate medication changes are required
- we have received sufficient information from your specialist to prescribe safely
What happens next?

Send us your details
Complete our short online ADHD shared-care form and provide details of your diagnosis, specialist and current medication.

We review your records
Our prescribing team will check that the diagnosis, treatment plan and monitoring information are sufficient for us to safely take over ongoing prescribing.

Ongoing care
Once accepted, we will provide routine prescriptions and monitoring. You will normally need an ADHD medication review at least once a year.
Medication changes
Primary care manages patients whose ADHD medication is stable.
If your symptoms change significantly, you develop important side effects, or your medication or dose needs to be changed, we may need advice from or referral back to the specialist ADHD service for review or re-titration.
Private ADHD diagnoses
If your ADHD diagnosis was made entirely privately, additional NHS specialist verification may be required before we can take over prescribing. We will advise you about the appropriate pathway after reviewing your information.

Frequently asked questions
Will the practice start ADHD medication?
No. ADHD medication should normally be initiated and titrated by an appropriate specialist service before ongoing prescribing is transferred to primary care.
Can you change my ADHD dose?
Medication changes or re-titration will usually require specialist ADHD input.
What monitoring will I need?
We will normally need an annual medication review and up-to-date blood pressure, pulse, weight and BMI. Some monitoring may be submitted remotely where appropriate.
Do you accept Right to Choose shared care?
We can consider ongoing prescribing following an appropriate ADHD assessment and successful titration where the required clinical information has been provided and the patient is stable.
